Easy Tips to Prepare your Car for Winter
As winter brings its snowy first down upon us it is important that we prepare our cars for the freezing temps and slippery roads. There are a few important and relatively simple steps you can take to ensure that your car, truck or SUV is ready to go for throughout the cold season. Should you need assistance with any of these items don't hesitate to reach out to your local auto repair shop.
Be sure that your windshield wipers are in proper working order. Remember too that you should pull them away from the windshield as the freezing temps set in, as they can get stuck on the ice and be ruined.
Check your tires. If you there is significant wear or other signs that your car is due for new tires, now is the time to do it. If you live in an area that gets more snow than others, consider snow tires.
Since the days are quite a bit shorter you will be using your lights more. Be sure to replace any burnt out headlights, tail lights, blinkers, brake lights, parking lights, driving lights, fog lights or reverse lights to ensure you remain visible.
Scheduled Maintenance & Tune Up
Keeping up with scheduled maintenance will help prevent chilly breakdowns. If your car seems to be running a bit rough or underperforming, you will want to consider a tune up!
Any cracked or chipped glass should be fixed. The cold weather can cause the damage to the glass to spread, resulting in a windshield you can't see out of or a door window that shatters.
It's best to be prepared at all times, which means carrying a safety kit that includes first aid items, road flares and reflective triangles.
Kitty litter is a time tested trick for giving your car the traction it needs if it gets stuck in snow or ice.
